Vintage Navajo 4-Hand Beaded Deerskin Pouch

$250.00

Description

Made in the 1960s from light tanned deer hide, glass trade beads, and twisted sinew. Attributed to an unknown Navajo artisan, the four beaded hands reflect the four clans; Bitterwater, Mud People, Towering House, and One Walks Around You. The body of the purse is striped in the same manner as a chief’s blanket, with a modified cross in yellow centered on the black and red field. The sinew stitching is tight and immaculate as is the beading, with no identifiable losses. The strap is also of twisted sinew with a bead and coral closure. Please see pictures for condition details as the photos are considered part of the description.
